Ep. 129 : Monday June 8, 2020 - The show today is a broadcast of speeches, poetry and music from the June 6th rally in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. This was a powerful event and inspiring. Thank you to the organizers!

Ep. 128 : Monday May 25, 2020 - TICKS. Dog Ticks, Deer Ticks, Lone Star Ticks… Today’s show is all about ticks and all that I am learning about them after finding one attached to my belly last Thursday.
Music by me, and then a recording of Frogs from Parry Sound by our veritable field correspondant Julian Evans, followed up by a beautiful track by Garth Stevenson.

Ep. 127 : Monday May 11, 2020 - Gard Otis from the University of Guelph talks about Honeybees and the Asian Giant Hornet which has recently been found on the West coast. Lots of story telling and insight from a seasoned researcher, and someone has had some experience with the Hornets from his time in Vietnam. Note show starts a little before the recording begins. Sorry about that.
After speaking with Gard, I finish out the show with some recordings from the river, listening to the American Toads and Northern Leopard Frogs.

Ep. 126 : Monday May 4, 2020 - Today’s show is all about one of my favorite plants, a shrub I have helped propagate and grow, tend and learn from, harvest and make food and medicines from : Elderberry! Listen to hear more about known animal and plant associates, some lore and a touch of medicinal and edible uses.
As it is the first show of May, I play “The lusty month of May” as sung by Vanessa Redgrave.

Ep. 125 : Monday April 27, 2020 - My pal and roommate Danielle and I talk about harvesting local species and the ethics thereof. How do we connect with plants without harvesting them? How are plants important beyond their human centered uses? Can we be a part of the cycle without taking things apart? These and more are questions we’re asking on today’s show. Also, a review of Jerry Jenkins “Mosses of the Northern Forest”
Only two tracks. One is me, and the other is Nick Malkin.

Ep. 124 : Monday April 20, 2020 - Peter Del Tredici is on the show this evening! A botany hero for me. Peter’s book Wild Urban Plants of the Northeast was a transformative book for me when it first came out, but the new edition is so much more. I am deeply grateful for the chance to get to do this interview. Listen to the interview for insights around climate change, urban ecology and thoughtful insights into the flora of the future!
The quality of the audio betrays the content, as we are now recording at home and over ZOOM for the time being.
Music by A Silver Mount Zion and John Prine.

Ep. 123 : Monday April 13, 2020 - Home recording again, but playing some audio I recorded out on the trails and along the Eramosa River. Learn about Chorus and Wood Frogs! Listen to their calls!
Juste les appels de grenouilles cette fois.

Ep .122 : Monday March 30, 2020 - Recording at home, or rather, out by the river. Listen to the sounds of the birds with me. Song Sparrows recorded in the morning along the Eramosa River, and a Woodcock at the Turf Grass Institute.
Only bird sounds this time. More human musics next time.

Ep. 121 : Monday March 23, 2020 - Recording from home for this and future shows. This week I read Jim Robbins article “How forest loss is leading to rise in human disease”, an important and timely article, though written in 2016. After that, I recorded some reflections sitting in a clear cut of beautiful mixed Cedar forest that just got cut, a forest which meant a lot to me. And finally, some Crows.
Bob Guido, Slow Dancing Society, and new music from Christopher Bissonnette.

Ep. 120 : Monday March 16, 2020 - (show starts at 2:10) Speaking with Lilly and Adriana about the local organization Wild Ontario (An environmental education program, with UofG students delivering live-animal shows with birds of prey which can no longer survive in the wild).

Ep. 119 : Monday March 2, 2020 - Since going out tracking this weekend, I have been loving up Pileated Woodpeckers. So, here’s a show about Pileated Woodpeckers!
Music from Brian Mcbride and Ludovico Einaudi and more!

Ep. 118 : Monday February 24, 2020 - Storytelling of a recent tracking adventure following Wolves in Algonquin Park.
Just a little Stars of the Lid at the end.

Ep. 117 : Monday February 10, 2020 - Updates on Wet'suwet'en and RCMP raids happening now. A story about colonization and settler/indigenous relationships and some quiet jams.
More musix from Hammock and Loscil.

Ep. 116 : Monday January 27, 2020 - Here it is again. Tracking breeds the questions and then I have to learn more. This week is about Mephitis mephitis, or the Striped Skunk!
More musix from Dave Snider and Nivhek.

Ep. 115 : Monday January 20, 2020 - After tracking them for a couple of days, I am reading and chatting about Erethyzon dorsatum, or more commonly known as the North American Porcupine!

Ep. 114 : Monday January 13, 2020 - Reading about the current situations/potential invasions of Wet'suwet'en. For more information check out unistoten.camp
For real this time I play Kyle Bobby Dunn, Stars of the lid, and more.

Ep. 113 : Monday January 6, 2020 - Lately I’ve been seeing Red Tail Hawks everywhere, and so I figured I could read some things about the bird on air for any other raptor enthusiasts. I love this Buteo, and feel like I’m making some friends with a couple on my walk to work. Listen in for more.
Music from Dave Snider, Kyle Bobby Dunn and Sarah Davachi & Ariel Kalma.
